Five Steps to a Fulfilling February

Already the rush of the holiday season is over. The excitement of another new year is a distant memory. Almost one month into 2018 and according to some statistics 60% of people who made a new year resolution have given up on them. They have gone back to their old ways or not even begun to put their plans into action.

Here are 5 tips to help make February the month to really get yourself going in the direction in which you want to be moving.

1. Be Honest With Yourself

One of the main things that can cause you to go back on the promises you made yourself is that you didn’t really believe yourself in the first place. You might have made the commitment to change what you are doing without believing that you wanted to do it. It is often an easy ‘quick fix of happiness’ to make promises to yourself that in your heart of hearts you know you don’t mean. You get an adrenalin rush at the time but deep down you know you will never keep the promise.

“I will be fitter in 2018” or “I will give up smoking in 2018” or “I will change career path in 2018”. Have you made a similar promise to yourself? Although you intended to keep these promises at the time you made them, you will not be honest with yourself if you don’t take the appropriate action steps to actually make them happen.

2. Relax and Enjoy

Don’t get uptight or stressed about the decision you have made to move forward. Many people dislike change and will do anything to keep the status quo. Change, even when it is for the purpose of moving forward, can mean disruption to your life and of those around you.

Relax and enjoy your decision to move forward. The transition will be more likely to be smooth when you enjoy the process.

3. Set Future History

We all have history. What most of us forget is that we don’t only have past history but we have future history too.

The only difference is that we do not know what the future history will be. You have two choices. The first is to let outside influences, like other people or circumstance set your future history. The second is to set your future history yourself.

You can set your own future history by planning the actions that you need to take and then making sure you take the appropriate action to put them into practice.

4. Be Motivated

Getting Motivated is easier said than done. It is not easy just to put a brave face on life if you lose the motivation to continue to move forward.

One method that can help you to remain motivated is to focus on the positive outcome of the goal you want to achieve. If the change you want to make is to have a new career path then focus on what benefits that will bring you in the short, medium and long term.

Take a picture, or even better draw one of whatever will remind you of this outcome and pin it somewhere that can easily be seen often throughout every day.

5. Seek Support

No matter how strong you are in your desire to move forward, it is unlikely that without a great support network you will be able to make it happen.

This should not be taken as being negative but instead regard it as very positive. Surround yourself with people who see your vision. Ask if they are willing and able to help you achieve your goal by being supportive.  Their support can be of enormous importance to you.

Find your support team by confiding in friends, workmates and family. Select 5 or 6 people who will be on your team.
